Bank donations add to downtown redevelopment

Mayor David Grissom said the cosmetics of an area is another way to attract people.

“And we are improving our downtown area with buildings being renovated, new businesses moving in, but there are a lot of little things that can help bring people to the downtown area as well,” Grissom said.

That’s why Grissom was excited about a donation from Valley State Bank.

The bank purchased 30 new architectural waste receptacles and six, 6-foot long metal benches, which are being installed in the downtown area.

“It’s little things like that,” Grissom said.

He said the bank, which is based in Russellville, spent $15,468 for the receptacles and benches. He said Leisure Creations of Russellville built the items.

“This is really going to add to the downtown area,” said developer and builder Chris Wallace. “These will make it look better, cleaner.”

Wallace and his partner in Made in USA Properties are finishing renovations on their second building in the downtown area.

Grissom said three buildings have been renovated, two of which now offer loft apartments and a third that will be a boutique motel.

“We have other people who are looking at doing something with the other properties,” the mayor said. “It’s all about bringing people to downtown. And this investment by Valley State Bank is very much appreciated and will just add to what we are trying to do.”
