In the News: Buildings to be demolished in Russellville, redevelopment to start downtown

Russellville city leaders are hopping on board to make their downtown area an anchor for new businesses.
Phase one of a redevelopment plan is tearing down buildings that have become a public nuisance. On Monday, city council members voted to demolish 215 and 217 Lawrence Street West. The buildings were damaged by a fire years ago, according to license and building inspector Bill Fuller.

In the News: Local women raising awareness for ovarian cancer

When Mary Ann Clement went to her doctor on Aug. 29, 2013, for what she believed was a routine bladder infection, she never expected the word “cancer” to come up during their discussion.
A mother and grandmother, Clement was the picture of health. She runs a daycare from her home, walks two miles a day and frequently works out. She never had a person in her family die from cancer.
“I was just certain the doctor was wrong,” she said. “I knew there was no way that I had cancer.”

In the News: City to participate in ‘silent killer’ awareness

“What is that for?”
That’s what Mary Ann Clement wants every person to ask when they see teal ribbons adorning city hall next month. She wants a chance to answer the question – the chance to tell people about a silent killer.
Clement shared her story with the Russellville City Council Monday story, a story of fighting ovarian cancer. She said she thought she was the picture of health and couldn’t even wrap her head around her cancer diagnosis when she was first diagnosed two years ago.

In the News: RCS championship teams honored at reception

American Pharoah may have earned horse racing’s elusive Triple Crown, but three Russellville High School teams already won a Triple Crown of their own long before the speedy horse easily captured Saturday’s Belmont Stakes.
Community members, school administrators and local elected officials hosted a reception Sunday afternoon for Russellville’s national championship rocket team and its state champion baseball and boys’ golf teams at the A.W. Todd Centre.
Retiring Russellville City Schools superintendent Rex Mayfield congratulated the students but also took time to express his appreciation to the community for its part in the teams’ successes.

In the News: Shelby visits IHP in Russellville

Every year, United States Senator Richard Shelby takes a job and industry tour around Alabama. This past weekend, Shelby came to north Alabama and visited Innovative Hearth Products (IHP) in Russellville.
IHP, which was formed in 2013 from a merger of two other companies, manufactures fireplaces, fireplace inserts, free-standing stoves, gas log sets and venting products for retail and residential sale. Since the merger, the company has grown to have operations in Auburn, WA, Union City, TN, Santa Ana, CA, Nashville, TN and Russellville.
IHP employs 784 people and wants to expand. The Russellville plant alone runs two shifts, and the building expanded about a year ago to house more employees and equipment.

In the News: Bentley joins in on SEHomes grand opening

Governor Robert Bentley made a stop in Russellville this past Friday at the grand opening of Southern Energy Homes’ new manufacturing facility where the end product of investment and planning for economic growth came to fruition.
General Manager for SEHomes, David Brewer, said the new 176,000 sq. ft. facility will produce 1,500 homes annually and add 50-70 new jobs to the already 270 at the plant.
The cutting-edge operation for SEHomes, a subsidiary of Clayton Homes, is located on 27 acres in Russellville’s Industrial Park #2.

Nearly 72 hours after the Shoals learned it will lose 200 jobs following the closure of izzy+ in Florence, another company says it has created 270 positions at a new home building facility in Russellville.
A spokeswoman said Southern Energy Homes (SEHomes), a subsidiary of Clayton Homes, moved out of one of its home building facilities in Double Springs and has expanded at a new location in Russellville, which opened earlier this month with 270 employees. An estimated 50 to 70 new jobs will be added at the site on Highway 44.

In the News: Innovative Hearth heats up Russellville economy

The Nashville-based company recently completed a 250,000-square-foot expansion and is planning to add about 250 jobs.
IHP is consolidating its location in Union City, Tennessee, to streamline production at its Russellville plant.
“We build to order and in five days can get a product built and get it ready to be shipped,” said Sam Scarbrough, plant manager. “We have just-in-time manufacturing, and do everything from purchasing to building and ordering components here.”
